The Standardization of Longevity against Dose in Experimental Tuberculosis by Intracerebral Inoculation

چکیده

Intracerebral inoculation of tuberde bacilli into normal guinea pigs induces acute meningoencephalitis with minor metastatic lesions. The disease is fatal in a relatively short time and is characterized by a rather typical succession of symptoms and a fairly characteristic temperature curve. The disease is produced by very small numbers of bacilli; and under standard conditions, survival time is so uniform as to make possible quantitative or titration experiments. Certain possible applications of the method are discussed.

Morphophysiological and Biochemical Responses of Zinnia elegans to Different Irrigation Regimes in Symbiosis with Glomus mosseae

Water deficit conditions, in addition to reduced water uptake, result in a reduction in nutrient uptake, and consequently, a substantial reduction in growth parameters, yield and quality. Substrate inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) as an environmentally friendly biofertilizer is an important strategy to improve the growth parameters and quality of products in such conditions. ...

Intradermal versus Subcutaneous Immunization of Monkeys against Poliomyelitis

1. The introduction of considerable amounts of living, active poliomyelitis virus into the skin and subcutaneous tissue of monkeys protects the animals against intracerebral inoculations of similar virus material. 2. The degree of protection conferred by intradermal is greater than by subcutaneous injection. 3. During intradermal and subcutaneous inoculations, no local or general pathological s...

The Diphasic Nature of Tuberculosis in Rabbits after Intravenous Inoculation with Bovine Tubercle Bacilli

It has been shown that in a large group of rabbits inoculated intravenously with bovine tubercle bacilli the disease which follows resolves itself into two distinct phases. The first phase manifests itself in widespread diffuse lesions which subsequently regress. The mortality rate shows a rise and fall during this period, which have been correlated with the extent of lesions and with the chang...

Further Studies on the Titration and Neutralization of the Western Strain of Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus in Tissue Culture

1. Titration and neutralization of the Western strain of equine encephalomyelitis virus can be carried out in vitro by means of tissue culture. 2. The in vitro titration test as presented is a more sensitive method than animal inoculation. 3. Tissue culture may be better than animal inoculation for the detection of small amounts of virus. 4. The neutralization obtained in tissue culture is 100 ...

The Cultural and Staining Reactions of a Strain of the Tubercle Bacillus Producing Paralysis in Guinea Pigs

When a strain of human tuberculosis was carried from guinea pig to guinea pig by intracerebral inoculation the bacillus of tuberculosis could be readily recovered in the semisolid "Leptospira" medium of Noguchi simply modified by the substitution of guinea pig for rabbit serum. Whether even this modification is required remains to be determined. The tubercle bacillus in these cultures and possi...
